Bog Cotton Gifts was born out of a love of nature, colour, design and creativity. The company is owned and run by Derarca Lynch from Valentia Island, Co Kerry. The concept of “Put some Irish Wild Flowers On Your Table” was born out of both a love of the beautiful vibrant wild flowers that grow in abundance on Valentia Island and a love of photography. The Fuchsia bloom from June to October and it’s hard to miss the little red ballerina with the purple skirt waving along every road side on the Island. If you take a stroll on the Paris Bogs (There is a Paris on Valentia too!) in the early summer months you will see the white fluffy heads of the Bog Cotton waving at you in the breeze. You will also experience that wonderful smell of the bogs mixed with salty sea air that is truly a pleasurable assault on the senses. From April to July you will find Sea Pinks scattered like a pink carpet on every sea wall and cliff side on the Island. In early spring when the lambing season has started, you will see the landscape light up as the Gorse or Furze as it is called in this part of the world starts to bloom. It’s like nature suddenly turns on a bright light and the ditches are lined with the vibrant yellow flowers that radiate a sweet coconut smell.
